The Science Behind AAH Light

What Is Photobiomodulation (PBM)?

Photobiomodulation (PBM), also called photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT), is a form of light therapy that uses specific wavelengths of visible and near-infrared light to support the body’s natural biological processes.

Unlike heat lamps or ordinary lighting, PBM uses precisely selected wavelengths and controlled energy levels that interact with living tissue in beneficial ways. The light is applied on or near the skin, does not burn or damage tissue, and does not break the skin.

PBM is non-invasive, drug-free, and widely used in human wellness, physical therapy, veterinary care, and equine applications. The biological mechanisms it supports are shared across people, pets, and horses, which is why PBM can be used safely across species and ages.

Here is a short overview -

How PBM Works in the Body

When PBM light is applied to the skin, photons travel into the tissue and are absorbed by cells in the skin, muscles, joints, and connective tissue.

At the cellular level, PBM supports mitochondrial function. Mitochondria are responsible for producing cellular energy (ATP), which cells rely on to repair, regenerate, and respond to physical stress. When mitochondrial efficiency improves, tissues are better able to maintain normal function and recovery processes.

PBM also supports local circulation, helping deliver oxygen and nutrients to treated areas. This combination of cellular energy support and improved circulation creates conditions that allow the body to heal and maintain itself more effectively.

Because PBM works with normal biological systems rather than forcing change, treatments are gentle and comfortable. There is no downtime, and sessions can be repeated regularly.

Safety & Long-Term Use

PBM has been studied for decades and has an excellent safety record when used as directed. It does not involve heat, radiation, or tissue damage, and it is well tolerated across a wide range of applications.

Some individuals may notice mild sensations such as warmth or relaxation during or after treatment. When addressing long-standing concerns, temporary sensations may occur as tissues respond to increased circulation and cellular activity. Darker skin tones may require slightly longer treatment times due to melanin’s light-absorbing properties.

PBM is suitable for repeated and long-term use and is commonly incorporated into ongoing wellness and recovery routines.

Why Wavelength Precision Matters

Not all light is therapeutic.

PBM relies on specific wavelengths, controlled output, and intentional application. Household LED bulbs, screens, and general lighting are designed for visibility and brightness — not biological interaction. They emit broad, uncontrolled light that does not deliver therapeutic benefit.

AAH Light devices are engineered to deliver:

  • Precise therapeutic wavelengths
  • Controlled energy output
  • Targeted application to specific areas
  • Repeatable, consistent dosing

This precision is what separates photobiomodulation therapy from ordinary light exposure.

The AAH Light Platform

AAH Light devices are designed to make PBM accessible, practical, and effective for everyday use. They combine carefully selected wavelengths with thoughtful design to support people, pets, and horses alike.

Different wavelengths serve different purposes — which is why AAH Light offers multiple colors that can be used individually or strategically together.

Explore how each wavelength supports the body in its own unique way.
