Welcome to our LED Light Therapy and Acupuncture Series

Each month, starting in June 2021 and continuing for the next 14 months, we will be featuring one of the TCM Meridians we use with our lights. Be sure to come back regularly and stay informed.

Part 3: The Spleen Meridian

The third installment of our Light Therapy & TCM Acupuncture blog series has us investigating the Spleen Meridian.

Classified as a Yin Meridian, the Spleen Meridian is sister to the Stomach Meridian, which we’ll be discussing next month.

In case you missed it, we have already explored the Lung and Large Intestine Meridians.

The Spleen Meridian

The Spleen Meridian originates at the tip of the big toe, traveling up the leg and crossing the Liver Meridian. It then moves through the spleen and stomach, up to the root of the tongue. Another branch connects the stomach and heart. Disruption in the flow of qi in this meridian primarily results in blood deficiencies, heart palpitations and disorders relating to memory and sleep.

Featuring a total of twenty-one acupoints, here we’ll review the Ting, Source, Master, Accumulation and Alarm Points.

Major Spleen Meridian Points

Located at the tip of the big toe, the Ting Point of the Spleen Meridian is referred to in English as the Hidden White. With the designation SP 1, this point assists with both the physical and emotional, including:

  • Internal bleeding
  • Excessive worry and depression

Next we have the Source Point, designated SP 3. Located near the ball of the foot, referred to as Supreme White, this important point aids in:

The Master Point of the Spleen Meridian, referred to as Three Yin Intersection, with the designation SP 6, is located in the lower calf. It aids in a great number of internal conditions, including:

  • All spleen disorders
  • Digestive issues
  • Gynecological and menstrual issues
  • Male sexual issues
  • Bleeding disorders
  • Insomnia, palpitations, hypertension, dizziness
  • Anxiety-related issues

The Accumulation Point, or SP 8, is referred to as Earth’s Crux. Located in the calf, engaging this point assists with:

  • Acute menstrual issues like clotting, fibroids and dysmenorrhea
  • Male infertility

Lastly, we have the Spleen Meridian’s Alarm Point. Located in the liver at LIV 13 and referred to as Camphorwood Gate, this point assists with:

  • Abdominal pain/distention
  • Vomiting
  • Constipation/diarrhea
  • Bloating
